OUR GUEST
There's an elephant in the attic
I have heard her blow her nose
It was like a slow ship leaving port
On the loudest ocean-flows.
There's an elephant in the attic
But how did she get in?
Perhaps she slipped down the chimney-pot
After climbing up the back-yard bin.
Her trunk protrudes into the morning sky
As she rests on her two hind legs
Her two giant ears keep her body cool
As she sits on her elephant eggs.
Should we ask her to leave this evening?
Or should we wait for pleasant weather?
Or should we wait until her babies hatch?
And watch them leave together?

MY FAVORITE THINGS
In the attic are my favorite things
A baseball bat and swimming rings
Two stuffed bears and a football boot
A checkered bag of pirate's loot
There's a tartan slipper, a woolly cap
The handsome dreams of a treasure map
My baby bike with its tiny bell
That rang like the sound of an ocean shell
There's everything that a child desires
A dream that under-the-stairs inspires
But of all of these, my favorite thing
Is YOU, my friend, and the joy you bring.
DO NOT ENTER!
In the attic is a treasure chest
That hides a thousand tales
Of ghosts and ghouls and warlocks
That chew on frogs and snails
There's the tall cap of a wizard
A pot for a witch's brew
That tastes of bats and horrid rats
In a bowl that's set for two
In the attic is a big locked door
Dark, scarey, bare
And if a toy gets lost inside
You had better leave it there
For the attic holds a scary world
That phantoms and fairies all share
Where witches and wizards and snakes and lizards
Wash their underwear
So children, little children,
I tell you, "Please Beware"
There's a strange world in the attic
So, ENTER IF YOU DARE!
